The existing wastewater treatment plant has been continuously expanded and upgraded for years. The first measure was to protect the neighbourhood from odour nuisance. Other projects included the renovation and expansion of the wastewater lines, as well as the upgrading of the sludge treatment line. Another intervention was the renewal of the energy production from biogas with the use of microturbines, whose waste heat is fed to the nearby sludge drying plant. The increased load of ammonium on the wastewater lines was solved thanks to a new Anammox® plant.
