The wastewater treatment plant in Bioggio was last renovated 25 years ago and thus needs to be revamped both to satisfy the general need for renovation and to adapt to new environmental requirements. The measures were gradually implemented. First, the entire sludge treatment system was renovated and expanded, and a new exhaust air treatment system was installed to prevent odour emissions. Then the wastewater line was repaired and partly redesigned and equipped with an additional treatment process for the separation of micropollutants.

The capacity of the plant makes it the largest in Ticino.
