Water corridor project of the Canton Zurich
Zurich, Switzerland
Living watercourses with sufficiently large watercourse corridors fulfil a multitude of protection and use requirements and are a prerequisite for functioning integral water management. To this purpose, the federal government enacted the revised Waters Protection Act and the revised Waters Protection Ordinance in 2011. It obliges the cantons to define a water corridor around lakes and along rivers and streams and to protect them from being developed. This preserves the necessary scope for nature conservation and flood protection measures, for recreational uses and for the utilisation of the watercourse, for example for the production of hydropower.
TBF supports the overall project management of the water corridor project at the Office of Waste, Water, Energy and Air (AWEL) as external project support for project set-up and project management.
