Tram line extension and redevelopment of Seftigenstrasse
Bern, Switzerland
Several construction projects are pending on Seftigenstrasse between Bern and Kleinwabern in Köniz. Kleinwabern has seen strong development in recent years, but is now poorly served by public transport. Additional local development projects are being planned, which will continue to increase the need for good public transport services. Plans are therefore underway to extend tram line 9 from Wabern to Kleinwabern, and to create an attractive public transport hub there, together with the planned BLS stop in Kleinwabern. But that’s not all. The road and tram tracks in the Seftigenstrasse area between the intersection at Morillonstrasse and the final stop in Wabern are ageing and in need of a full renovation. While plans for a light renovation in the centre of Wabern (Wabern–Sandrain) are underway, the roads between Sandrain and Morillonstrasse will be redesigned to better meet today’s traffic requirements.
