City of Bern bike campaign
Bern, Switzerland
Due to limited availability of space, to handle future traffic volumes, most additional traffic will be offset by bicycle use. The municipal council of the city of Bern wants to increase the proportion of bicycle traffic from 11 to 20 per cent by 2030, and has launched a ‘bicycle campaign’ to pursue this aim.
During an initial internal administrative process, the cross-departmental working groups discussed cycling and mobility culture, services and promotional measures as well as bicycle parking, the interaction between cycling and public transport, and technical, planning and legal aspects of promoting cycling. The measures were then prioritised, coordinated and gradually implemented with the involvement of the general public and stakeholders.
TBF supports the city of Bern in designing, developing and implementing the bicycle campaign.
