District heating extension ewb
Bern, Switzerland
In Bern, ewb (Energie Wasser Bern) will be building more than 30 kilometres of new district heating pipes over the next 15 years. A low-temperature network will be created in the west and north-east under the project heading ‘District Heating Expansion’. To ensure the energy supply, the Forsthaus power station will be optimised, geo-storage built and a new wood-fired heating plant set up in the south-western part of the city.
The basis for the expansion is set out in the city of Bern’s energy structure plan. The aim is to supply more than 70% of Bern's entire heat supply from renewable energies by 2035. District heating is crucial in achieving this.
For this project, TBF is responsible for general project management and is managing and coordinating the different areas covered by network infrastructure, production infrastructure, commissioning and training. TBF is also supporting the operational set-up and, as part of the subproject covering the Rehhag wood-fired heating plant, is tasked with project planning for the plant.
