Accompanying the SwissPhosphor project
throughout Switzerland
The Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) is coordinating the implementation of phosphorus recovery from sewage sludge and meat and bone meal in Switzerland. As part of this process, it has initiated the SwissPhosphor project. Together with the cantons, the Federal Office for Agriculture, the VBSA association and the Swiss Water Association (VSA), the phosphorus recycling process providers, the Swiss Farmers’ Union, the fertiliser industry, the cement producers, the sewage sludge incinerators and the wastewater treatment operators, it is developing a plan with concrete measures. By 2026, these measures will have transformed Switzerland’s phosphorus sector so that it offers financially optimal solutions that also take sustainability into account, guaranteeing safe disposal while avoiding unnecessary excess capacity.
The FOEN has commissioned TBF to provide technical and organisational support to the project, making an active contribution to its success.
