WWTP Kloten Opfikon
Glattbrugg, Switzerland
The Kloten Opfikon wastewater treatment plant purifies the wastewater for the towns of Kloten and Opfikon as well as Zurich airport. The plant needs comprehensive expansion, upgrading and renovation as a result of the population increase in the drainage area as well as the new statutory requirements for eliminating micropollutants.
The project includes new mechanical pre-treatment, modification of the biological area according to the NEREDA® process, a new ozonation facility for eliminating micropollutants, two new digestion tanks and a new exhaust air biofilter. The constricted space means that the actual build is proving highly complex, with several construction phases necessary to avoid interrupting treatment while construction is ongoing.
