Wankdorf Railway Station
Bern, Switzerland
Parts of the Wankdorf Nord station will reach capacity limits over the next ten years due to development of the Bern Wankdorf area. Urgent action also needs to be taken to remedy the poor structural condition of the station. The existing main passageway is just one example of this.
TBF was commissioned by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) to manage and plan this major project, which includes a pedestrian subway, integrated bicycle crossing and platform facilities. TBF is in charge of engineering during SIA (Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects) phases 31 (updating the preliminary project), 32 (construction project), 33 (permit-obtaining procedure) and 41 (invitation to bid excluding comparison of offers and awarding) and provides services related to general management/coordination, civil engineering (underground railway construction), railway access, the carriageway and traction current.
The project was stopped due to lack of funding SBB/City of Bern. It is currently under discussion whether the project should be realized in 2030 or 2035.
