The station is the primary arrival and departure point in Wohlen as well as the regional hub for public transportation. However, the facilities as they stand today no longer meet customer needs and safety requirements. They are also not compatible with laws relating to equal opportunities for people with disabilities. Swiss Federal Railways (SBB AG) and Aargau Verkehr AG are also planning to upgrade their facilities in conjunction with the municipal project, focusing on improving transfer connections. In addition to a redesigned bus station and station square, a new Park+Rail facility, and new pedestrian subway, AVA will also receive a new terminal station. This requires the removal of an open loading area for freight traffic, as well as the demolition of a freight shed. This project is supported by a lengthy participatory process, also assisted by TBF, which includes a full consideration of interests to result in a solution that benefits all sides.
