Planning for three projects that need to be coordinated and implemented in a very confined space is underway in the Kloten region: the Glattalbahn transit extension from the airport to Kloten, industry, flood protection and a main bicycle line.

The Glattalbahn extension comprises around 3.5 km and six stops. The city will receive a rapid public transport connection to the Zurich Airport, as well as a direct connection to the commuting area of the existing Glattalbahn.

Flood protection for the Altbach tributary in Kloten is of central importance due to the high potential for damage to Kloten and Zurich Airport. According to the Waters Protection Act, flood protection is a basic requirement for implementing the Kloten extension of the Glattalbahn transit system.

The main bicycle route along the Altbach tributary provides a direct and fast connection through Kloten and to the airport.
