New construction of sewage sludge incineration line no. 3
Karlsruhe, Germany
The city of Karlsruhe has been operating a sewage sludge incineration plant at its main sewage treatment plant since 1981. The plant has two redundant boiler lines (VEB1 and VEB2). A permit for the incineration of up to 20,000 Mg of dry mass per year is in place. Now that boiler line 1 is approaching the end of its service life after almost 40 years of reliable operation, it is to be replaced by a new boiler line (VEB3) with a combustion capacity of up to 2.5 Mg DR per hour. The project includes the complete planning of the new construction of line 3 including mechanical pre-thickening and sludge dewatering, receiving outside sludge, sewage sludge drying, fluidised bed furnace and energy utilisation as well as flue gas cleaning.
In November 2017, TBF was tasked with general planning for the plant.
